Event Genius includes built-in support for WordPress caching plugins to ensure your event registration information stays accurate even when pages are cached. This guide explains how it works and how to configure it.
The Challenge with Caching
Caching plugins improve website performance by storing static versions of your pages. However, event registration pages contain dynamic information that changes frequently:
- Registration status – Whether registration is open, closed, or full
- Attendee counts – How many people have registered
- Capacity information – How many spots remain
- Registration buttons – Whether or not registration is open
Without special handling, cached pages would show outdated information, leading to confusion when visitors see “5 spots remaining” but registration is actually full.
How Event Genius Solves This
Event Genius uses a two-part solution to ensure accurate information while maintaining fast page load times:
1. Automatic Cache Clearing
When someone registers or cancels, Event Genius automatically clears the cache for that specific event page. This ensures the next visitor sees up-to-date information.
Supported Caching Plugins:
- WP Super Cache
- W3 Total Cache
- WP Rocket
- LiteSpeed Cache
Cache clearing happens automatically in the background – no configuration needed!
2. Smart Content Refresh
For visitors viewing pages that were cached before a registration occurred, Event Genius includes a smart refresh system:
- Each dynamic element includes a timestamp of when it was rendered
- JavaScript compares this timestamp to the current time
- If content is older than your configured threshold (default: 3 minutes), it automatically refreshes
- Only the specific dynamic elements refresh, not the entire page

This means visitors always see accurate information, even on cached pages, without sacrificing performance.
Benefits
- Accurate Information – Visitors always see current registration status and attendee counts
- Fast Performance – Pages remain cached for speed, with only dynamic elements refreshing when needed
- Efficient Server Usage – Refresh only happens when content is likely stale, minimizing server requests
- Seamless Experience – Updates happen automatically with subtle loading indicators
How It’s Efficient
Event Genius is designed to minimize server load:
- Single API Call – For single event pages, all dynamic elements refresh in one request
- Staleness Threshold – Content only refreshes if it’s older than your configured time (default: 3 minutes)
- Conditional Execution – Refresh only occurs on page load, not continuously
- Targeted Updates – Only the specific elements that need updating are refreshed, not entire page sections
This approach ensures your server isn’t overwhelmed with unnecessary requests while still keeping information current.
Configuration
You can configure the dynamic content refresh feature in Settings → Events:
- Enable Refresh – Toggle the feature on or off (default: “enabled”)
- Staleness Threshold – Set how many minutes old content can be before it’s considered stale (default: 3 minutes)

What Gets Refreshed
On single event pages, the following elements automatically refresh when stale:
- Registration status messages
- Attendee counts
- Registration state (whether or not registration is open)
- Event CTA (Call-to-Action) section
On calendar and event listing pages, the entire calendar refreshes if it’s stale.
