Like many other WordPress plugins and themes, the Event Genius plugin uses JavaScript for some features. When there is a JavaScript error or conflict on your website, this could stop certain features of the Event Genius plugin from working as expected.
This would primarily affect things like the event registration form from appearing and/or submitting successfully, the export options inside an event details page, and the calendar. If you notice one of these features not working as expected, follow the steps below to check your site for a JavaScript error.
Checking for JavaScript Errors
1. Go to the page on your website where you are having the issue.
2. Either press the “F12” key on your keyboard, or right click (Cmd + click on Mac) and select “Inspect”.
3. This will bring up the browser developer tools. Click on the “Console” tab.

If you see a red error similar to that shown in the screenshot below, then this usually indicates a JavaScript error.

There are times when other things will be listed in the console that look like JavaScript errors, but actually are not, like in the screenshot below.

If you’re not sure, then it’s best to continue with the troubleshooting steps below. If the troubleshooting steps don’t help, then you can always reach out to us for support.
Troubleshooting JavaScript errors
The first step in troubleshooting is to determine where the error or conflict is coming from on your site. To do this, hover over the link shown in the error. This will show the full path to the file causing the error. Look for the part which says either “plugins/[plugin-name]” or “themes/[theme-name]”.
Depending on whether the issue is coming from a plugin or from your theme, follow the relevant steps below:
From a Plugin
- Go to the WordPress “Plugins” page, and deactivate the plugin.
- If you are using a caching plugin, then clear your website cache.
- Recheck for JavaScript errors on your page to see if the issue still persists.
- If it doesn’t, then this indicates that there is an error or conflict being caused by that plugin.
- To further test to see if the error is being caused by a conflict with another plugin, you can reactivate the offending plugin and then deactivate other plugins one-by-one, checking each time to see if the JavaScript error still occurs. For example, if the error is present when both the offending plugin and the Event Genius plugin are active, but goes away when you deactivate the Event Genius plugin, then this indicates that there is a conflict between those two plugins. If this is the case, then reach out to us via our support page and we can help to resolve it for you.
From your Theme
- Go to your WordPress “Appearance” page, and try temporarily switching to a default WordPress theme. You can do this by clicking “Add Theme” and then selecting a default WordPress theme, such as “Twenty Twenty-Five” or “Twenty Twenty-Four“.
- If the error goes away, then this indicates that there is a JavaScript error in your theme itself.
- Reactivate your regular theme and then try deactivating each of your plugins one-by-one, checking each time to see if the JavaScript error still occurs. If the error goes away when deactivating a plugin, then it indicates a conflict between that plugin and your theme.
- You would then need to reach out to both the theme author and the plugin author to let them know and request support. If the conflict is with the Event Genius plugin, then reach out to us via our support page and we can help to resolve it for you.
