Registration types in Event Genius Pro let you offer clear ticket options—like General, VIP, or Early Bird—so attendees choose what fits them while you control pricing, availability, and capacity for each option. Setup is simple, and the form adapts automatically to your event: one type or many, one ticket per person or quantities per type. This guide explains when to use registration types, how they work, and how to set them up.

Why use registration types?

Registration types help you run more flexible, professional events without adding complexity. Instead of a single fixed option, you can offer multiple tiers with different pricing and availability. This is especially useful for conferences, classes, memberships, and any event where not all attendees are the same.

Attendees see simple, clear options at the top of the form and only pay for what they select. You stay in control of availability and limits for each option.

Benefits for you

  • Offer flexible ticket tiers — Create options like General, VIP, Member, Student, or Early Bird with their own pricing.
  • Control availability per type — Limit VIP to 10 spots while keeping General open, or control any type independently.
  • Run time-based pricing — Use early bird pricing that ends automatically or open certain types later.
  • Accurate payments and reporting — Payments match exactly what was selected, and sold counts stay accurate per type.
  • Reduce manual work — Attendees can fix mistakes (like choosing the wrong type) before payment without needing your help.

Benefits for attendees

  • Clear choices with pricing shown up front.
  • Ability to select exactly what they need (and how many).
  • Option to update their selection before completing payment.

Easy to set up and use

You don’t need any technical experience to use registration types. Add your types in the event editor (name, price, and optional limits), and the registration form automatically adapts.

If you have one type, the form stays simple with no extra UI. If you add multiple types, attendees see clear options and can select what they need. The plugin handles pricing, totals, and capacity automatically.

What are registration types?

A registration type is a ticket option for an event. Each type can have:

  • A name (e.g. “General”, “VIP”)
  • An optional description
  • A price (or free)
  • An optional capacity limit
  • An optional sales window

When registration is enabled, an event always has at least one type. In Event Genius Pro, you can add multiple types and fully customize each one.

How to set up registration types

Edit your event and go to the Registrations tab. In the Registration Types section:

  • Add one or more types
  • Set a name and price
  • Optionally set capacity and availability
  • Reorder or disable types as needed

Save the event. The registration form will automatically display the correct experience based on how many active types you have.

Tip: Registration types work seamlessly with your form’s guest settings. Whether you allow a single registrant or multiple guests, types will adapt automatically.

How registration types work

Registration types behave differently depending on your event setup and form configuration. Below are the most common scenarios.

One type vs multiple types

If your event has one active type, the form stays simple and applies that type automatically.

If your event has multiple types, attendees see a clear selection interface with each option’s name, price, and availability.

Single registration (no guests)

The attendee selects one type (e.g. VIP or General). The checkout reflects that single selection.

Quantity per type

Attendees can choose quantities per type (e.g. 2 VIP and 1 General). The total is calculated automatically.

One type per guest

Each guest selects their own type. The system groups totals behind the scenes for payment and reporting.

Editing your registration type

Logged-in users can manage their registration and update their selected type before payment is completed. After payment, types are locked to ensure totals remain accurate.

Type availability states

Each type can appear as:

  • Available — Can be selected
  • Sold out — Capacity reached
  • Not on sale yet — Sales haven’t started
  • Sales ended — No longer available
  • Disabled — Hidden by the event organizer

If the event itself is closed or full, the form will not be shown.

Upgrade to unlock full flexibility

Registration types are part of Event Genius Pro. With Pro, you can create multiple types, set custom pricing, control availability per type, and give attendees a smoother, more flexible registration experience.

If you’re currently using a single registration option, upgrading to Pro is the easiest way to support VIP tiers, early bird pricing, and more advanced event setups.
